During his pre-game press conference, Mets manager Luis Rojas announced that Dellin Betances would undergo shoulder surgery and miss the remainder of the 2021 season. Betances, who signed with the Mets on Christmas Eve 2019, hit the IL on April 8.
A dominant stint with the Yankees ended with injury for Betances, who missed most of the 2019 season due to a shoulder impingement and a partially torn achilles tendon. When the Mets signed him, it was considered a high risk/high reward move.
The risk proved greater than the reward, as Betances was mostly ineffective for his time on the Mets.
