NEW YORK -- Jacob deGrom finished off what he hopes will be a National League Cy Young Award season with a flourish, delivering eight shutout innings and recording his 1,000th career strikeout in Wednesday night's 3-0 victory over the Braves.
deGrom's clean sheet lowered his Major League-leading ERA to 1.70, more than half a run better than the next-lowest NL mark. He struck out 10 Braves and walked none, allowing just two hits.
DENVER -- With an important game in a playoff race the real issue, Rockies right-hander German Marquez got the record-breaking out of the way early Wednesday night at Coors Field.
