WASHINGTON -- Jacob deGrom's routine excellence has resulted in another all-time feat. In limiting the Nationals to one run over seven innings on Friday, deGrom set a Major League record with his 23rd consecutive quality start in a single season, snapping a tie with Bob Gibson and Chris Carpenter.
More and more, the National League Cy Young Award appears to be a foregone conclusion for deGrom, despite his 8-9 record entering Friday's game. He demonstrated his knack for run prevention throughout his start, cracking for his only run after issuing a leadoff walk in the second and allowing a sacrifice fly to Ryan Zimmerman two batters later.
