De Blasio to follow through on tobacco ban in ballparks

Mayor de Blasio said he’s “definitely going to sign” off on a bill to outlaw chewing tobacco at Yankee Stadium and Citi Field because it’s “very important for the health of our players and for our city as a whole.”

Appearing on ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” Sunday, de Blasio vowed to approve the new City Council proposal within the next two weeks.

“Young people look up to baseball players and they look up to all athletes, and we want to protect everyone’s health,” de Blasio said. “This is something we believe in. Tobacco products of all kinds are fundamentally dangerous.
