David Wright has made a lot of spectacular plays over his 14 years as a Met, but his shrewdest may have taken place off the field.
The Mets captain — who, it was revealed Thursday, will retire at age 35 on Sept. 29 after making his final start at Citi Field — played his last major league game in May 2016.
But despite battling a slew of injuries and spinal stenosis, Wright is at least sitting pretty financially — thanks partly to a well-timed investment in VitaminWater a dozen years ago.
Wright took equity instead of cash when he agreed to endorse the thirst-quenching drinks in 2006.
