The question surrounding David Wright now has morphed from, can he return to his prime form, to, can he return — at all.
The Mets announced Saturday that Wright had to be shut down from baseball activities because of pain in his lower back for the second time since he went on the disabled list with a right hamstring strain on April 15. That could be remembered as a taxing day short- and long-term for the Mets.
In the here and now, it is going to be difficult for the offensively challenged Mets to get to the postseason with Daniel Murphy or Eric Campbell or prospect Matt Reynolds manning third.
