CHICAGO — David Wright’s latest comeback attempt appears closer to fruition, with the Mets third baseman set to join Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday, according to sources.
The Mets captain spent the last two weeks playing for Single-A St. Lucie, appearing in 10 games. Wright, whose rehab assignment is set to expire Friday, is hopeful of rejoining the Mets on the September roster. Beginning Saturday, teams can carry up to 40 players.
Wright, 35, last appeared in a major league game for the Mets in May of 2016. He has since undergone three surgeries and continues to manage spinal stenosis, a chronic condition in his back.
