David Wright flying his bad back to see California guru

David Wright will head west for another opinion on his sore lower back.

The Mets third baseman is expected to be examined by Dr. Robert Watkins in Los Angeles within the next 2-3 days and undergo physical therapy. Watkins has been consulting Wright in recent weeks, after Wright was diagnosed with stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal canal.

Wright, who was placed on the disabled list on April 15 with a strained right hamstring, has been shut down from baseball activities in his rehab for at least one week as he rests the back.

“I’m hopeful that with this week of rest he will be able to resume his progression,” general manager Sandy Alderson said Monday before the Mets faced the Phillies at Citi Field.
