PITTSBURGH -- David Wright's nightmarish stay on the Mets disabled list will drag on even longer now that he has suffered a second setback.
The offense has cratered without Wright, who has been sidelined since April 15. He has been shelved from baseball activities for a week because of recurring tightness and pain his back.
According to assistant general manager John Ricco, Wright has been diagnosed with spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal column. He will rest and continue on an exercise program to strengthen his core and stabilize his back.
"When I talked to David, he said when [doctors] initially put him on some medication, he got a lot of relief," Ricco said.
