David Peterson and Mackenzie Gore went toe to toe for the first four innings of the game. The lefties matched zeros, with the Mets amassing just a single hit through the first four frames, and the Nationals threatening in the first and second innings to no avail. Peterson worked around runners on first and second with two outs in the first, and runners on first and third with zero outs in the second, striking out three batters in a row to work out of that particular jam.
The Mets offense exploded in the fifth, with Luis Torrens hitting a lead off double to put them in business right away.
