Daniel Murphy’s October has unfolded in such a manner that it would be news if he doesn’t hit a home run in Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday.
The Mets second baseman, who has homered in a record six straight postseason games — he hit seven homers overall in the NLDS and NLCS — will have an opportunity to establish another mark.
Barry Bonds, Carlos Beltran and Nelson Cruz share the record for most homers (eight) in a single postseason, putting Murphy within one swing of joining that group. Beltran’s eight homers with the Astros in 2004 came over 56 plate appearances for the best ratio among the leaders.
