You can consume yourself in the auxiliary antics du jour, if that makes you feel better, if that allows you to forget about the more pressing and depressing matters at hand. The Mets always seem to provide something odd to the equation, don’t they? If the choice is between laughter and tears, they always go for the guffaw.

So we spent the first part of the day searching for Mr. Met, last seen flipping the bird to a fan late Wednesday night. Mr. Met, who is no dummy, spent the early part of the afternoon lunching with 1969 Met Art Shamsky, no doubt hoping for a dollop of positive mojo, before making a triumphant return to the field in the seventh inning.
