KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Mets know better than to underestimate Chris Young.
The veteran righty may not throw hard enough to break a window, but he stifled the Mets in a relief appearance in last year’s World Series before making a shortened — but decent — start against them three games later.
Young will get the ball at Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday, replacing Ian Kennedy in the Royals’ rotation. Kennedy is sidelined by a hamstring injury and will have his turn skipped in the rotation.
The 37-year-old Young, who spent 2011 and ’12 with the Mets, signed a two-year deal with the Royals in the offseason worth $11.
