PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Michael Conforto’s conversations with the Mets’ new hitting coach have focused more on mental approach than anything mechanical.
In a change to their offensive philosophy, the Mets hired Chili Davis this offseason to implement a system that will emphasize contact and, when the regular season begins, situational hitting.
Conforto, who admittedly has fallen into bad habits previously by becoming too homer-happy, is among the early believers.
“In certain situations it can make a big difference, just changing the mindset a little bit,” Conforto said Tuesday before workouts at First Data Field.
