‘Concern level has gone up’ for Mets on Steven Matz

The more things change around the Mets — their first playoff berth since 2006 — the more they stay the same: a “day-to-day” injury is still more like “week-to-week.”

Steven Matz continues to experience back stiffness, Mets brass said Friday, putting his availability for the National League Division Series further in question.

“I think the concern level has certainly gone up,” general manager Sandy Alderson said, via ESPN. “It hasn’t seemed to get better. I probably downplayed it a little too much at the outset based on hope rather than information. The fact that it hasn’t responded particularly well is concerning.
