NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Before Friday’s game, Mets manager Mickey Callaway said on WFAN, “we’re in a tough spot. It’s gonna take a miracle.”
That was no understatement. New York has gone into a complete free-fall, losing five straight games and falling to a dismal 17-31 on the road this season. Even with the 1968 “Miracle Mets” in town this weekend, there was no miracle Friday night.
Streaking rookie Mike Soroka outpitched Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom, and the Atlanta Braves got a two-run homer from fellow youngster Austin Riley in a 6-2 victory Friday night over the plummeting Mets.
