SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Padres continue to flirt with no-hitters when they host the New York Mets.
The Padres nonetheless remain the lone major league franchise lacking the pitching feat.
Yoenis Cespedes delivered the first hit against Padres right-hander Colin Rea with a two-out single in the seventh. The Mets ultimately opened their 11-game trip with a 5-3 loss on Thursday night at Petco Park.
Cespedes delivered the shot through the vacated right side of the infield with the Padres (12-17) heavily shifting the righty hitter.
