PHILADELPHIA — Chris Mazza was watching the Mets game on TV in his apartment a night earlier when he got the call informing him his dream was about to be realized.
And so the right-handed pitcher arrived at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday as a 29-year-old rookie ready to help out the Mets’ beleaguered bullpen.
“I have got the whole rest of my life to get a real job so just stick it out as long as I can,” said Mazza, who did not pitch in the Mets’ 5-4, 10-inning loss to the Phillies.
A 27th-round pick in the 2011 draft, Mazza had bounced from the Twins to the Marlins and Mariners without receiving a major league callup.
