If the Mets are inclined to sign any established major league relief arms between now and the beginning of the 2025 season, 38-year-old right-handed pitcher Chris Martin could be a good fit.
Having spent the past two seasons with the Red Sox, Martin finished the 2024 campaign with a 3.45 ERA and a 2.78 FIP in 44.1 innings of work. He struck out 50 and issued only three walks, giving him a 1.7 percent walk rate that was the best in baseball among 203 relievers who threw at least 40 innings this year.
If the innings total looks a little low, that’s because Martin had two stints on the injured list during the season: a brief one in June as he dealt with anxiety and a slightly longer one in July as he deal with right elbow inflammation.
