Cespedes' grand-champion hog sent to butcher

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Yoenis Cespedes' prize pig is headed to the butcher.

The New York Mets sent out a semi-official statement Wednesday announcing the 270-pound grand-champion hog, which was purchased for $7,000 by Cespedes at a 4-H Club auction at the St. Lucie County Fair on Sunday night, must die.

In an email with the subject header: "Pig," a team official wrote: "Can't believe I'm sending an email out about a pig but we've gotten several questions about what's happening to the pig so I just wanted to make sure everyone has the same info.
