PHILADELPHIA — The Mets could be facing an outfield conundrum.
Yoenis Cespedes returned to the lineup Sunday as the left fielder after missing four games with discomfort in his right quadriceps, and later stated a preference to remain in left for the rest of the season.
“I would rather play left field because I’m comfortable and also because it’s less work on my leg,” Cespedes said after going 0-for-3 with a walk in the Mets’ 5-0 victory over the Phillies. “If they give me the option I will stay in left field.”
But that could be a problem from team brass’ perspective: Michael Conforto, who will rejoin the Mets on Monday in Chicago, only plays the corner-outfield positions, and Curtis Granderson is the primary right fielder.
