KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It was quite a start to the World Series for Yoenis Cespedes.
First, the Mets center fielder missed the pregame introductions before Game 1 against the Royals at Kauffman Stadium because he was in the bathroom, according to a team spokesman.
Then on Matt Harvey’s first pitch of the bottom of the first, he misplayed an Alcides Escobar fly ball to left-center when he and and left fielder Michael Conforto converged on the ball.
It hit Cespedes in the right leg and rolled into left field as Escobar raced around the bases for the first inside-the-park homer in a World Series since Mule Haas hit one for the Philadelphia A’s in 1929.
