In a move described as being “overly cautious” rather than absolutely necessary, manager Mickey Callaway announced the Mets were placing Jacob deGrom on the disabled and skipping his Monday start.
DeGrom came out of his last start Wednesday with a hyperextended right elbow, suffered while swinging, after four scoreless innings. An MRI revealed no structural damage, and deGrom was deemed good to pitch. But Callaway said the decision to shelve deGrom a start came with the long-term view in mind.
“[Monday] Jacob deGrom is not going to start.
