PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The New York Mets have sent Nevin Ashley to minor league camp. That leaves Travis d'Arnaud, Kevin Plawecki and Johnny Monell as the catchers remaining in major league camp.
Ashley, 31, hit .100 (2-for-20) with one RBI in 12 games for the Milwaukee Brewers last season.
Dissatisfied with their options behind d'Arnaud and Plawecki, the Mets have been trying to acquire another catcher with some major league experience, although it is unclear whether they will be successful.
