NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — WFAN co-host Craig Carton says the New York Mets wanted St. John’s head coach Chris Mullin to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at Citi Field — with some strings attached.
According to Carton, the Mets were rebuffed when they asked the school to buy 5,000 tickets in exchange for Mullin doing the honors.
The team “retracted the demand” and then requested that Mullin throw out the first pitch the day before he’s scheduled to take the mound in the Bronx, which was also denied, according to Carton.
