Reliever Carlos Torres has been placed on waivers by the New York Mets.
The Mets had designated Torres for assignment last Friday to clear a 40-man roster spot for the addition of Antonio Bastardo. The club then had a week to trade Torres, but did not find a sufficient return.
Torres is due to earn $1.05 million in 2016. Because he has been a capable reliever in the past and has a modest salary, it seems a logical conclusion that he will be claimed and the Mets will lose him.
Torres, 33, logged 97 innings while making 73 appearances (one start) in 2014.
