With Pete Alonso hitting the open market, the Mets have the opportunity to explore some options at first base for the first time in six years. Of course, they could just spend to bring Alonso back, which is not out of the question. They could look internally and move Mark Vientos to first base for a more substantial upgrade at third base. Or they could look to the free agent market to bring in a new first baseman, and one of the players who they could consider for that role is the veteran Carlos Santana.
If it feels like Santana has been around forever, it’s because he has.
