LAKELAND, Fla. — Four years after the Crying Game, Carlos Gomez finally appears headed back to the Mets.
On Friday, the team was close to a minor-league deal with the former All-Star outfielder, according to an industry source. The 33-year-old Gomez began his career with the Mets, but his link to the franchise goes deeper.
Gomez was on the verge of a trade from the Brewers to the Mets on July 29, 2015. When the news broke, Wilmer Flores – who was headed to Milwaukee with Zack Wheeler in the deal – was caught on camera in tears on the field.
