Mets RHP Jacob deGrom left his start Wednesday night abruptly with what was revealed to be a hyperextended right elbow.
Manager Mickey Callaway said that the intial discomfort came after deGrom struck out against Braves starter Sean Newcomb. And though deGrom came into the dugout and informed Callaway and pitching coach Dave Eiland of the problem, he went back out to the mound for the fourth inning anyway.
"Yeah, so he came in he said, 'You know what, my arm hurts on that last swing so I'm just not going to swing the rest of the night,'" Callaway said after the game.
