Brandon Nimmo was set to get the day off Sunday for what his manager called a “mental break.”
Instead, the struggling Mets outfielder may have found an even more beneficial boost: an RBI double off Max Scherzer.
After being double-switched into the game in the fifth inning, Nimmo snapped an 0-for-13 skid by ripping his first extra-base hit of the season into the right-field corner and ending Scherzer’s day with one out in the seventh.
“That’s really important,” Nimmo said after the Mets’ 12-9 loss at Citi Field. “I found the barrel, so that’s good.
