PHILADELPHIA — Brandon Nimmo’s left hand remains intact, but his return to the Mets lineup might not come for another couple of days.
The Mets received about the best news possible on the outfielder Friday, when an MRI exam confirmed previous X-rays that showed no structural damage to Nimmo’s left index finger. Nimmo was struck with a pitch with his index finger Thursday, hitting a grounder to third base, and crumpled to the ground in agony.
“It’s more just a blow to the index finger and he is going to be able to play as tolerated moving forward,” manager Mickey Callaway said before the Mets faced the Phillies, noting Nimmo was examined by two hand specialists.
