The last Mets skipper to take the club to the World Series before this season says he's as "disappointed as anyone" that Game 5 ended with the Royals hoisting the championship trophy.
"It was a heck of a series," Bobby Valentine told the Daily News Monday, less than 24 hours after Wilmer Flores struck out looking to end Game 5 of the 2015 Fall Classic. "It was so close, and I thought it would go back to Kansas City."
Valentine managed the Mets in 2000, when they faced the Yankees in a true Subway Series. Like this year's Fall Classic, those 2000 Mets fell in five games.
