PHILADELPHIA — Reaching the postseason two straight years might not sound like a monumental achievement, but in Mets history it’s a big deal.
Only the Mets of 1999 and 2000 accomplished the feat, both times as the NL wild-card entry.
The Mets will begin play Friday against the Phillies with a second straight postseason berth clearly in focus, with their magic number to clinch heading into Citizens Bank Park at two.
“If you are doing it two years in a row, you really get a great feeling of satisfaction,” said Bobby Valentine, who managed the Mets to their only consecutive postseason appearances.
