Blackburned

The Mets defeated the Angels 5-1 in the opening game of this ten-game road trip thanks to an impressive Mets debut from Paul Blackburn, a towering shot by Pete Alonso, and some shoddy defense by the Angels.

The Mets wasted a good opportunity to get on the board right away in the first inning when they had two men on with one out, but Pete Alonso and Mark Vientos struck out back-to-back to end the inning and the scoring threat. But the Mets broke through in the very next inning with a leadoff double by José Iglesias and a one-out RBI single by Francisco Alvarez to jump out to a 1-0 lead.
