NEW YORK -- Bob Geren is departing as bench coach for the New York Mets to accept the same position with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Dave Roberts' staff, a source confirmed to ESPN.
Geren had served as Mets bench coach since 2012 under Terry Collins. He also worked with Mets catchers. Geren originally had interviewed for the managerial job with Los Angeles.
The Mets hope to replace Geren with someone already in the organization. Tim Teufel conceivably could shuffle to bench coach, with the Mets adding at another position on the staff.
