After all the hype surrounding the brilliant young arms on the Mets' pitching staff, aging Bartolo Colon's hot start provided an ironic and sometimes humorous counterpoint. But that feel-good story gave way to reality last night at Citi Field as Colon looked like the 42-year-old he will be on Sunday while giving up nine runs in the Mets' 9-0 loss to the Cardinals.
Colon (6-3) entered the game trying to become the first pitcher in the majors to reach seven wins this season, but he instead followed a 7-0 loss to the Brewers in his previous start with an even worse performance.
