ST. LOUIS — This is an entirely new game for the Mets. They need their secondary arms and their offense to come alive.
They found a new pitching hero with long flowing hair in Robert Gsellman, who rescued an injured Jon Niese (knee) in the first inning Tuesday night and managed to produce 3 ²/u2083 innings of shutout relief in his major league debut in the Mets 7-4 win over the Cardinals at Busch Stadium. The win moved the Mets within 3 ¹/u2082 games of the second wild card.
Nothing like getting thrown right into a wild-card race in your major league debut.
