Asdrubal Cabrera will let the offseason heal his left knee, avoiding potential surgery, an industry source indicated Monday.
After the Mets’ 3-0 loss to the Giants in the NL wild-card game last week, the veteran shortstop said he planned to have the knee, which had bothered him for much of the season, examined. It was later determined Cabrera did not need surgery.
Cabrera spent 2 ½ weeks on the disabled list in August with a strained patellar tendon, and played through discomfort down the stretch. Even so, Cabrera was among the team’s most productive hitters over the final six weeks, when he hit .
