Asdrubal Cabrera was bunting on his own.
But what might have seemed like a good idea turned into disaster for the veteran infielder, who popped up the bunt in Wednesday’s eighth inning and watched reliever Richard Bleier turn an easy double play in the Mets’ 1-0 loss to the Orioles at Citi Field.
The lefty Bleier caught the popup and nailed Brandon Nimmo, who ran from first to second base on the play.
Nimmo had singled leading off the inning, and Cabrera had the option to bunt or swing away, according to manager Mickey Callaway.
