If only every inning were the 10th.
Home runs from J.D. Martinez and Jose Iglesias plus an RBI triple from Francisco Alvarez in the 10th inning helped give the Mets a 9-7 win over the Washington Nationals Monday night at Nationals Park.
The six runs the Mets scored in the 10th tied the franchise record for the most runs scored in an extra-inning frame.
Martinez’s three-run home run was his 10th of the season and fourth to give the Mets a lead. Iglesias’s two-run home run was his first as a Met, and Alvarez’s triple was the first of his career.
