PORT ST. LUCIE — Adhering to a proposed law that would ban smokeless tobacco for fans and players at ticketed sporting events in New York could be a challenge for the Mets.
Players were reluctant to speak on the record about the matter Friday for fear of backlash, but it’s clear the proposed ban — which will go before the City Council’s Health Committee next week — is a concern among many.
“I would like to see how they are going to enforce that,” said one Mets player who regularly uses smokeless tobacco.
