Mets GM Sandy Alderson said the team wants to make sure Dominic Smith gets most of the playing time once he's called up from Triple-A Las Vegas, suggesting that the presence of Jay Bruce and Curtis Granderson on the roster is keeping Smith in Las Vegas.
Smith, 22, is currently ranked the organization's top prospect and the league's best first base prospect by MLB.com and Baseball America.
Bruce, who the team is reportedly open to trading this month if he clears waivers, has been playing first base, while Granderson -- who the team is also open to trading -- has been playing center and right field.
