Mets GM Sandy Alderson said on Tuesday that 1B prospect Peter Alonso has "put himself on the map."
"He's been great the first month of the season," Alderson said at Citi Field. "Not only has he hit well, but his defense has apparently improved quite a bit."
Later on Tuesday, Alonso crushed a three-run, game-winning HR for Double-A Binghamton -- his fifth homer in six games.
The 23-year-old Alonso, who is the reigning Eastern League Player of the Week, has been absurdly good this season. He is hitting .400/.500/.788. with eight HR, seven doubles, and 22 RBI in 22 games (80 at-bats).
