Mets GM Sandy Alderson said Tomas Nido and Jose Lobaton "haven't been contributing much on the offensive side" while being good defensively, and that he's open to improving the catching situation with an external acquisition.
"The situation with the catching, you can go out and look for a significant improvement, or you can look for an incremental improvement," Alderson said, noting that he has to weigh whether an incremental improvement would be worth it due to the "lack of familiarity" a new catcher will have with the pitching staff.
Alderson added that the team has "looked at a significant improvement, and we just don't think that's available.
