KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It took one pitch from Matt Harvey to Alcides Escobar for the Royals’ shortstop’s amazing postseason to continue.
Escobar drove Harvey’s initial offering of the Mets’ first World Series game in 15 years into the left-center field gap where center fielder Yoenis Cespedes butchered the ball twice and allowed Escobar to tour the bases for an inside-the-park homer.
“I said wow! I have a chance to make this,” Escobar said. “That’s nice. That’s a lot of fun right there.”
It was the first leadoff inside-the-park homer in a World Series game since Patsy Dougherty did it in 1903 for the Boston Americans.
