TAMPA — Dilson Herrera returned to the Mets after his game-winning homer beat Panama and advanced Colombia to next year’s World Baseball Classic.
“It was amazing for me because everybody was watching that game in my country,” Herrera said before the Mets’ 6-3 loss to the Yankees at George M. Steinbrenner Field Tuesday.
He will have to wait a bit longer before he’s ready to make as big an impact on the Mets, because Herrera is slated to begin the season with Triple-A Las Vegas, thanks to the addition of middle infielders Asdrubal Cabrera and Neil Walker, as well as the presence of Wilmer Flores.
