P.J. Conlon did not get borrowed for a Grapefruit League game while in minor league camp in 2016, which was his first spring training in the Mets organization. So, when the 23-year-old southpaw started against the Astros this Feb. 27 and George Springer stepped into the batter's box to lead off, Conlon experienced some jitters.
"Springer gets in the box and I'm like, 'All right, this is like a dude, this is like a dangerous hitter,'" Conlon recalled Tuesday. "And I fall behind 2-0, and I'm like, 'Here you go. Just go after it.' And he ended up popping up to first.
