Peter Alonso suffered a fractured fifth metacarpal in his left hand while facing Vanderbilt on May 13, 2016, yet rushed back in time to participate with the University of Florida in an NCAA Regional only three weeks later.
So when he was struck on the same hand by a pitch from Bradenton right-hander Dario Agrazal less than a week into this season with the High-A St. Lucie Mets, Alonso knew the diagnosis. This time, it turned out, Alonso suffered a fractured fourth metacarpal.
"I squeezed my hand and I heard a crunch and I was like, 'Nope, that ain't good to go,'" Alonso recalled.
