A Test, and Texts, for the Mets With David Wright Out

WASHINGTON — In early June, Eric Campbell singled home a run to give the Mets the lead in a game they eventually lost, 7-2, to the Arizona Diamondbacks. It was the type of play easily forgotten over the course of the six-month season. But for Campbell, a nondescript reserve, the hit ended an 0-for-28 slump.

After the game, a text message from David Wright awaited him in the clubhouse.

Wright tries to text one person on the team each day, congratulating his teammates after good games, reassuring them after bad ones, and checking in now and then.
