Maybe all Carlos Gomez needed was a breather.
Returning to the starting lineup for the first time in three games, the struggling center fielder ended a 14 at-bat hitless stretch with an early two-run homer, and finished 2-for-4 in the Mets’ 5-3 win over the Rockies on Saturday night at Citi Field.
Gomez, who had struck out at least twice in his previous four starts, recorded a hit for the first time since May 31, and homered for the first time since hitting a go-ahead shot in a win over the Nationals on May 23.
